The interview at the Marketing PhD job market is an essential step in the transition from Marketing PhD to Marketing Professor. Here are the top 4 tips:
Tip 1 - Introduction: Starting with a strong introduction will keep the audiences engaged for a longer time, and will make them remember you after the interview is over. The first few minutes (and slides) - along with the last ones - are the most important in your presentation.
Tip 2 - Slide Materials: Make sure that you know well everything that you include in the slides. Anything in the slides can lead to hard questions and put you in a tough spot - focus on the essential.
Tip 3 - Answering questions: being prepared for questions is essential; for that, you need to practice with both Faculty members at your school, but also with audiences that are not familiar at all with your materials which force you to be extra clear about your materials.
Tip 4 - Be prepared to tell people to shut up, in a polite way. Remember that you should be the one in control of the interview time. If someone is dominating the interview, that means less time for you to show value and who you are. In a polite way, just mention that you need to move on and you can follow with questions and comments at a later time (don't forget to follow-up with those questions and comments - so write them down).
